La Marotte is a French sheep’s milk cheese created for Rodolphe Le Meunier, crafted from raw ewe’s milk in the southwest of France. Inspired by the traditional style of Ossau-Iraty, it offers a nutty, buttery profile with a rich, satisfying depth. Its distinctive shape increases the presence of the rind, lending a unique balance to the paste—firm yet creamy, with an almost fudge-like texture and gentle earthy undertones.
Aged in natural cellars for a minimum of three months and up to a year, La Marotte evolves beautifully over time. The flavor begins smooth and delicate, gradually developing brighter, almost pineapple-like notes as it matures. Its round form, designed to be halved, makes it especially suited for use with a girolle, creating elegant curls that highlight both texture and aroma. Named after the French word for a jester’s wand, La Marotte brings a sense of character and charm to any cheese selection.
